Whether your tooth was knocked-out in an accident or you suffer from a severe case of periodontal disease, dentures can restore the form and function of your smile and get you back to your daily life. Dr. Griffin is an experienced prosthodontist in Shorewood who offers judgment-free, compassionate care and beautiful results. The dentures created at Lake Bluff Dental are built to last and will look completely natural in your mouth.
If you suffer from tooth loss, you know how debilitating it can be when it comes to everyday activities like chewing, smiling, and speaking. Dentures can restore your confidence and the function of your smile with a long-lasting prosthetic. They offer a less invasive treatment for patients looking to replace missing teeth without implant surgery.
If you are missing only a few teeth, and your remaining teeth are healthy, a partial denture will be the right option for you. With a partial denture, you can replace several missing teeth throughout your mouth, while keeping all of your remaining healthy teeth.
Full dentures are only recommended if you are losing most or all of your upper, lower, or both arches of teeth. If you have an advanced case of gum disease and your teeth are loose and unhealthy, full dentures may be recommended. All of your teeth will need to be extracted to make room for a full mouth denture, so this prosthetic is usually only a good solution if most or all of your teeth have been damaged.
Partial dentures can replace anywhere from a single tooth to 8+ teeth at a time. As long as you have a healthy mouth and your remaining teeth are strong enough to provide an anchor point for the partial denture, you can replace many teeth without having to remove healthy ones.
During your first partial denture appointment at Lake Bluff Dental, Dr. Griffin will examine your mouth and take impressions of your teeth and gums. She will use this information and work closely with her in-house lab technician to create a mockup of your partial denture. Once this prototype denture is ready, you’ll schedule another appointment to try it on. After both you and Dr. Griffin are satisfied with the look and fit, a permanent partial denture will be made based on these molds and mockups.
The first step involved in full dentures is to extract any remaining teeth from your upper, lower, or both arches of your mouth. Once this step has been completed, Dr. Griffin will provide you with a temporary set of dentures that you can wear until your gums have completely healed.
Once the healing process is complete, Dr. Griffin will take impressions of your jaw and gums. Next, a series of wax forms and molds will be made to fine-tune the exact position and shape of the denture.
Next, a set of prototype dentures will be requested. You’ll try on this set of dentures to ensure proper fit, and Dr. Griffin will fine-tune the fit and shape until it’s perfect. Finally, your dentures will be cast, and you’ll come in for your final fitting.
If you are missing multiple teeth but your remaining teeth are healthy, and you are not interested in bridges or dental implants, partial dentures may be right for you.
Full dentures are a good option for you if you are missing most or all of your teeth, or your remaining teeth are damaged and unhealthy. To learn more about your prosthodontic options, schedule a consultation with Dr. Griffin at Lake Bluff Dental today.
